Terms of use
Last updated 3 November 2026
In short: CBAM Checker gives estimates, not advice. You are responsible for your own CBAM registration, returns, payments and deadlines, and for checking any result before you rely on it. We are not responsible for any fines, penalties, interest, tax or other losses that come from using this site or from errors in it.
1. Who we are
CBAM Checker is a trading name of Hiring Group Limited, a company registered in Scotland, number SC518635. Registered office: 89 Fair A Far, Edinburgh, EH4 6QB. You can contact us with the contact form or at hello@cbamchecker.co.uk. "We" and "us" in these terms means Hiring Group Limited.
2. These terms
These terms apply whenever you use cbamchecker.co.uk, including the checker and the results, files and calendar reminders it produces. By using the site you accept these terms. If you don't accept them, don't use the site.
The site is for businesses. If you use it for a business, including for your clients, you accept these terms on behalf of that business and confirm you have authority to do so.
3. Estimates, not advice
- The checker and everything on this site are general information and estimates only. They are not tax, legal, customs, accounting or financial advice, and using the site doesn't make us your adviser.
- We are not HMRC, and we are not connected with or endorsed by HMRC or any other government body.
- Results depend on the data you load and on HMRC's published rules, rates, default values and lists, which can change, be corrected, or be read differently. The rates are HMRC's illustrative rates until HMRC publishes binding ones. We don't promise that the site is accurate, complete or up to date.
- The checker doesn't check your data, and it can't know anything that isn't in your file.
4. Your responsibility
You alone are responsible for:
- deciding whether and when CBAM applies to you;
- registering, filing returns, paying CBAM tax and keeping records, correctly and on time;
- the accuracy and completeness of the data you load, including commodity codes, values, weights, dates, emissions and carbon prices;
- checking any result against HMRC's guidance, and getting professional advice before you rely on it.
If you use the checker for your clients, you are responsible for what you tell them.
5. No responsibility for fines, penalties or errors
As far as the law allows, we and our directors, employees and contractors are not liable for:
- any fine, penalty, surcharge, interest, tax, duty or other amount charged by HMRC or any other authority;
- any missed or wrong deadline, registration, return or payment;
- any error, omission, inaccuracy or delay in the site, the checker, its data, rates, deadlines, calendar reminders or results;
- any decision you or anyone else makes based on the site;
- any loss of profit, revenue, business, contracts, goodwill or data, any wasted spending, or any indirect or consequential loss;
- any loss caused by the site being unavailable, by viruses or other harmful material, or by websites we link to.
This applies however the loss arises, whether in contract, negligence, breach of statutory duty or otherwise.
6. Limit on our liability
Free use. The site and the checker are free and provided "as is" and "as available", without any warranty, condition or promise of any kind, express or implied, as far as the law allows. If we are liable to you despite these terms, our total liability for all claims about the free site is limited to £100.
Paid services. Readiness checks, done-for-you services and broker services are also covered by the written quote or agreement for that work, which takes priority where it differs from these terms. Unless that agreement says otherwise, section 5 applies to paid services too, and our total liability for all claims about a paid service is limited to the fees you paid us for that service in the 12 months before the claim.
7. What we don't exclude
Nothing in these terms limits or excludes liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or for anything else that the law doesn't allow us to limit or exclude.
8. Claims from other people
Only you and we have rights under these terms. If you use the site for clients or anyone else, you will cover us for any claim they bring against us that comes from your use of the site or from results you passed on to them, including our reasonable legal costs.
9. Your data
The checker runs in your browser: the files you load are not sent to us. Messages sent with the contact form are kept by our website host, Netlify, and we use them only to reply to you.
10. Our content
The site's design, text and code belong to Hiring Group Limited. HMRC's lists, rates and default values are public sector information licensed under the Open Government Licence v3.0.
11. Changes
We may change, suspend or withdraw the site, or change these terms, at any time without notice. The terms on this page when you use the site are the ones that apply.
12. General
If a court decides any part of these terms can't be enforced, the rest still applies. These terms are governed by the law of Scotland, and the courts of Scotland have exclusive jurisdiction.
